India Itinerary
August 22 - September 2, 2025
The Imperial
Day 1: Arrive in Delhi*
Spend the night at the luxurious Imperial Hotel
Welcome dinner

Day 2: Leh
A quick (1.5 hour flight) to Leh and we are instantly surrounded by the High Himalayas. We have an easy schedule to allow for acclimatization (elev. 12,000') touring the only cashmere mill owned and operated by the nomads and a visit to Shantay Stupa,

Day 3: Leh
We rise early to enjoy morning prayer at Thiksey Monastery, modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet followed by a visit to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's private residence. In the afternoon, it's time for our cooking class in a private home, learning how to make momos -traditional dumplings.​

Day 4: Nubra Valley
Our drive to Nubra Valley takes us over Khardung La, purportedly the highest motorable pass in the world (elev. 18,380') - will pause for pictures and soon be on our way. In the afternoon, it's time for a ride atop the two-humped Bactrian camels that have roamed the region from when it was part of the Old Silk Road.

Day 5: Nubra Valley
We have a full day to explore Nubra, meeting with farmers, visiting the famous Diskit Monastery, chatting with young monks, and in the evening we watch the sunset over the sand dunes.

Day 6: Pangong Lake
Before the movie, "The Three Idiots," very few traveled to Pangong Lake. It is in the easternmost part of Ladakh, which also happens to be the heart of Changtang, the premiere cashmere growing area. Our drive from Nubra to Pangong will include some of most dramatic scenery imaginable. In the afternoon. we will have a tour of the lake and a bonfire after dinner​​

Day 7: Pangong Lake
In 2015, Wild Fibers opened the first cashmere spinning and weaving center, Pangong Craft Center, in a nomadic village specifically to support the women who have lovingly raised these animals for centuries. Upon arriving at the center, you will be given a traditional Ladakhi welcome by the ladies and spend the day learning about their lives and no doubt, meeting some of their small children as well.

Day 8: Nomadic Camp
We promise you a day that will linger in your heart forever after breaking bread and going to bed in a nomadic camp. Surrounded by thousands of cashmere goats, countless yaks, and a few barking dogs, you will experience the tenacious nature of the nomads and their abundant heart.

Day 9: Lower Ladakh
Traveling along roads that have been dramatically improved in the past 10 years, we gradually descend to lower Ladakh and spend two nights along the shore of the Indus River. Your private cottage (fully solar-powered) is part of an apple and apricot farm.

Nomadic Life
​​Day 10: Lower Ladakh
Within a short distance of our resort we can visit several monasteries including Alchi, which is famous for its spectacular murals. We will enjoy our last al fresco tea in the mountains before returning for dinner and a cultural dance show.

Day 11: Leh
We return to Leh in the morning and enjoy the afternoon visiting the market where you will have the chance to shop for true Kashmiri shawls and other items unique to the area.

Day 12: Fly to Delhi
Our flight to Delhi leaves in the morning, arriving no later than noon.
If you like, we can help with further travels to Jaipur, Jodphur, or Varanasi.
If you are flying home that day, we recommend booking a flight that leaves after 3:00 pm.
